Happy Birthday, Miranda!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Well, this one was actually easier than I thought. The design was the only part I hit a little snag. I had to cut the areas where they overlapped so I could place them correctly, because I didn't think ahead. Then I had to separate multiple sections in order to have more than one gradient. Overall, though, this one was the easiest I've done. The hardest part was coming up with a name. From a suggestion, one of my latest blades was named Kerrigan. I thougt maybe something along those lines instead of leaving it nameless. Then I realized I was finishing it in time for Miranda Doerfler's (Twitter, website) birthday, which is actually tomorrow, but I couldn't wait. So, that had to be it. Now I'm thinking of Serenity, and the deadliness of its look is reminding me of reavers. Also, the color scheme of brown and orange is quite Firefly, so I think the name might be perfect.

Original finished June 7, 2007.

Oblivion Has Arrived

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

This one was supposed to be easy. I was almost done with it over a week ago, just a day or two after I started. That's a great time for me since life is busy. But, as I always do, I decided it wasn't enough. Oblivion always seemed unfinished. In fact, many of my weapons do, because I used to get ideas so quickly that I wanted to move on to the next as soon as the shape of the last was set in pen. Maybe a third of my weapons actually have designs on them for this reason.

Here's where I almost stopped. I'm glad I didn't. I really like the scales.

Kerrigan

Sunday, December 9, 2012

I had something to say about this weapon last night before bed. Why I didn't write this then I have no idea. I remember nothing. Oh, well, at least I have a name for it courtesy of @kevinphiggins. He said...

I played the first game, but it was so long ago I don't remember much, and I don't have the sequel yet since, until recently, my PC was a dinosaur. So, I looked up Kerrigan and the name certainly seems to fit. It's almost as if I was inspired by the character. And the more I think about it the more the name grows on me, like when I had to name The Nameless One for the Spartacus online game contest. I settled on Ruber Mors (Red Death).

So, thank you, Kevin, for the perfect name, because I had absolutely nothing.

By the way, yes, I noticed that the Twitter embed buttons are in Indonesian. It's not my Twitter settings, which I just changed four times, and I haven't been able to find anything in the template yet. It took way too long to find a template I love, so I guess I'll live with it for now.

Distraction

Saturday, November 10, 2012

It's been a while since my last weapon. I've been very distracted lately with Reinbeast.com, mostly talking about Fringe. I think only one post was about something else. I had to write some letters, specifically to Joel Wyman, John Noble, and Joshua Jackson. The last isn't finished yet, but shouldn't take too much longer. I also had to worry about submitting some of my stuff to the Fringe Fan History book that the amazing fans of Fringenuity are writing. I've also been spending time making icons and writing other posts.

So, it has taken a while to draw this weapon, even though it was the easiest one I've done so far. I was going to have a pattern for the handle as in the original, but I just liked it better this way. It's hard to come up with a design/pattern for every weapon, especially since I'm always itching to move on to the next, and I didn't have one for this, so I just played around in ArtStudio for a while until I got something that I think works.

Vengeance is Mine...Also, I Entered a Contest

Thursday, October 25, 2012

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Above is my latest blade, Vengeance, and below you'll find the other weapons I entered into a contest for the game Spartacus Legends, all of which I've already posted before. I had to leave a description off of a couple of them, because it was blocking too much. The resizing tool was lacking and there were no other edits possible. The site really needs a redesign.

If you'd like to vote, you can go directly to the pages for Ruber Mors, Desolation, Despair, In Silentio, and Vengeance. But it really is fair to look at the entire gallery and vote for whatever you think deserves to win. Pay special attention to the jet and the guy with the guitar, both humorously bewildering.

A Little Bit of Purple

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

This is another unnamed blade. Can't come up with something appropriate for all of them. I just finished one a few days ago, and I keep drawing the weapons that have a lot of detail, so I needed a break. I went with a simple knife and finished the vector in a day. Two years ago it started life with the nickname Fuck No. It was horrible, nothing like what I had in my mind. It was an incomplete idea anyway, and stayed that way for two years until one day it just came to me. Then I erased the "No" and replaced it with "Yeah!"

The Nameless One

Sunday, October 14, 2012

Here's one of my favorites, a single-handed axe without a name. I feel like it should be named, but never came up with one. It doesn't have a story either. At least, I don't remember if it did. I had a cat who died around this time, but I don't think it was a tribute or I would have at least made a note of it. All I can tell you is this one was designed rather quickly, over less than a week. That doesn't happen a lot.

I do wish I'd made the handle a bit larger, but I didn't feel like tinkering with it anymore. If I ever learned to make blades (eventually, hopefully) then I'm sure I'd change that part a bit. I just wanted to concentrate on the head and design.

Fringe Tribute Knife ~ Resistance

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Here's my newest design. I started this one just a week or so ago. I haven't made a new blade in quite a long while. I've just been redoing already finished ones in vector programs. It came to me rather quickly after the first episode of this season. Read about it at Reinbeast: Forgiveness and Hope.

Desolation Complete

Saturday, September 29, 2012

Before I go to bed I should get this up, because I was a bit forgetful today. I've been working on Desolation for far too long. I need to share. This was created around the same time as Despair, and the names are from a line in a Muse song. They're releasing a new album next week, by the way. Yeah, I know the background is a bit boring, but is that really what you came for? The weapon itself is the important part. And after obsessing over the teensy details, I could not give myself more work. Plus, the incredible Fringe season premiere was tonight and then I had to watch Haven, so I was a bit busy.

Despair, Uploaded from the Photobucket iPad App

Inspired in an indirect way by David Tennant. I was searching for Doctor Who fan videos back in 2007 because I was newly obsessed with this man of incredible talent. I came across one set to Muse's "Map of the Problematique." I had never heard of the band or the song before. I knew a little while later, after I drew these weapons, that they had to be named after lyrics in this song.

I really wanted to do the pair at the same time, but it will take at least another two weeks to finish Desolation. I haven't even started it yet, and life tends to get in the way, so it will probably be longer than that.

Spider-Bat

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Okay, what will I choose for my second actual weapon post? There are many. Well, I've only uploaded one notebook to Photobucket so far. Hmm...I think this one.

I wonder how this will look after my vector app gets a hold of it.

Finally Starting Something

My second post is nearly two years later than my first. Wow, that was a long break, and I didn't even look for a good template (done now, though). I blame Twitter and my other blog for taking every last free second of my time that I wasn't playing games, watching TV, drawing weapons, or doing laundry. Actually, I can also blame Fringe, because I've been working on a post about it for approximately forever. Yes, 8 months is forever.

Anyway, this was going to be a blog about edged weapons I drool over with my own designs sprinkled in. It will probably mostly be a showcase for me now, since there are only so many hours in the day. A couple years ago I scanned all of my then current weapons into my computer and never did anything more than that, but lately I've been turning them into vector drawings on my iPad. It's taken more than a month just to do three of them, so I'm going to post the originals before the sparkly new versions are complete. But I'm going to start with the ones I've already posted on Reinbeast.

There are actually three versions of this one, but it's just slightly different coloring.
